Scratch Building Geara Zulu in the mobile suit GUNDAM (TV animation series)_Gallery 3

There are three major annual competitions for Gunpla in Japan which are "Gunpla-Ou" ("Ou" means "King".), "Ora-Zaku" ("Ora" means like "My".) and "Gunpla Builders World Cup". These are competed by the high-level modelers and the works of the prize winners are the amazing precise models. Although I did not get any prize in Gunpla-Ou this year, some day I want to get a prize.  If you are interested, please click here for how to built this scratch building. Scratch Building Geara-Zulu, not ZAKU form the mobile suit GUNDAM (TV animation series)_Gallery 2

Gunpla is a portmanteau of "Gundam Plastic Model". The Gunpla was first sold in 1980 and most kids in Japan bought many defferent models of Gunpla and built them. Of course I bought the gunpla that was "GOUF" for the first time. The Gunpla at that time was provided one color parts kit. For example, GOUF is dark blue only. So we needed to paint more color on the model to complete perfectly. But recent Gunpla is provided the multicolor parts kit. Another defference is that the recent Gunpla needs no adhesive bond, so little kids can build it easily. My son has three models of Gunpla and the first bulding was eight. Of course there are a lot of Gunpla builders other than kids in Japan. If you are interested in more information about how to make this scratch building, you can see a large number of images of Geara-Zulu building process at my another blog from below link, but it is all Japanese texts...

Scratch Building Geara-Zulu, not ZAKU form the mobile suit GUNDAM (TV animation series)_Gallery 1

This is the Scratch Building Geara-Zulu that is a mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam that is a televised animation series in Japan. This Scratch Building was built to apply the GUNPLA competition 2012 in Japan and was taken three month to complete based on HGUC (1/144 scale) Ganpla. My work was advanced to the finals at the competition, but it was all and I was bummed. I have already started to built new work for GUNPLA competition 2013.

Wooden VOTOMS Scopedog Robot Model

This is the Wooden VOTOMS Scopedog Robot Model that I built last year. The Scopedog is the Armored Trooper from "Armored Trooper VOTOMS" that is the televised animation series in Japan. I have seen only the movie series through DVD before. Wooden VOTOMS Scopedog is my fourth work.

Before beginning of the carving I found the VOTOMS magazine provided the design drawing of the Scopedog at the used book store and I started to make the parts of the Scopedog based on the design drawing. It was difficult to image the 3-D model of the Scopedog from 2-D design drawing. The applying wood lacquer was executed three month ago, since the quality of the applying wood lacquer was bad when I finished the carving of Scopedog. The applying wood lacquer was failed several time and it worked recently. Please have a look at the pictures of Wooden VOTOMS Scopedog Robot Model.

Wood ZAKU Robot Model from Mobile Suit Gundam

This is the wood ZAKU robot model that I built last year. ZAKU is a mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam that is a televised animation series in Japan. I used to watch Gundam every week when I was a teenager. Of course I also used to build the plastic robot models of Gundam series. A year ago I started to make a wooden sculptures. The first work was JIZO that is one of the most popular Buddhist Bodhisattva in Japan. The reason for the JIZO making, I found only a how to book of a wooden sculptures for JIZO at the city library. To make a wooden sculpture was very difficult for me as an amateur and I often cut my finger by a carving knife. After the completion of carving, the applying wood lacquer was needed and it was also difficult to look good. Wood ZAKU is my fifth work. Please have a look at the pictures of ZAKU.

Have you ever seen UMI-HOTARU?

The sea-firefly is UMI-HOTARU in Japanese. Although you may know the firefly, you may have never heard the sea-firefly. The sea-firefly is one of bioluminescence species and they produce a beautiful and small light same as the firefly that live on the ground, but they live in seawater.

The dried sea-firefly, Length of body  1.5~3 mm (1/16"~1/8")

The sea-firefly can be seen at the beach in Japan with a little luck. I went to collect them last week with my children. At the fishing harbor near the beach, I set the trap into the sea to collect the sea-firefly.

The trap bottle containing the chicken

20 minutes later, I retrieved the bottle, then...We saw the beautiful blue lighted seawater in the bottle! I put the seawater on the ground, then the blue lights was being moved slowly. Also the sea-firefly on my hand was lit. It was first experience for us. We were so impressed with this scene and had a valuable experience.

Have you ever caught "HIRAME"? ~My Lure Fishing Report~

Do you know "HIRAME"? A flatfish is "HIRAME" in Japanese. I went saltwater lure fishing with my son last weekend. The target fish was "MAGOCHI" (Platycephalus) which lives on the bottom of the sea. It is major fishing target in Japan. I do not know if it is a Japanese style, but the picture below shows the tackle for MAGOCHI fishing.

Plastic Worms (ECOGEAR 3-1/4", Color: Pearl White) and Jig Head (1/8 oz)

At fishing site I repeatedly cast the plastic worm to the bottom of the sea and felt response. But it was just heavy, not move...Sea garbage? I spooled up the fishing reel slowly and then... "I have caught HIRAME, not MAGOCHI! It is expevsive fish and will be a delicious dish!" Of course, my family enjoyed the fried flatfish for dinner on the same day.

Do you know MINUN?

This is MINUN, the character of POKEMON. I have been made the wooden carving of MINUN for my daughter. There are many POKEMON toys in my house and she selected it since MINUN is her favorite character. MINUN may feel lonely, since PLUSLE, MINUN's partner, is not around... I have to build PLUSLE soon!
